The Robben Island Museum (RIM) has announced the launch of the 'NextGen Heritage Free Pass' program, aimed at increasing access to heritage education for families from South Africa.
From June 1 to October 30, 2026, children from South Africa under 15 years old can visit the museum free of charge, provided they are accompanied by a paying adult.
This initiative aligns with RIM's goal of educating children and encouraging intergenerational engagement with the country's living heritage. As one of South Africa's most iconic historical sites, RIM offers a unique educational experience that brings the complex history and democratic journey of the country to life through tours led by former political prisoners.
The campaign aims to spark curiosity, encourage reflection, and strengthen the sense of shared heritage among young South Africans and their families.
The 'NextGen Heritage Free Pass' is valid from June 1 to October 30, 2026, and applies to daily tour time slots at 09:00, 11:00, and 13:00. The ticket price for a South African adult citizen is 400 South African Rand (R400), while the free entry for a child is limited to one child per paying adult.
If additional children are brought along, the standard price is 210 Rand (R210) per child. Reservations can be made online at www.robben-island.org.za or directly at Nelson Mandela Gate on Robben Island, located at the V&A Waterfront.
