The Civil Services Examination Commission of the state (CGPSC) announced the sudden cancellation of the interview and document verification process for candidates preparing for the CGPSC State Service Exam 2025. The commission suspended the process, which was set to begin on September 20th, citing 'unforeseen circumstances.' This decision was made just four days before the interviews were scheduled to start.
It was planned that interviews for 265 vacancies across 20 different departments would take place from September 20th to October 1st. New dates for the event will be announced later on the commission's official website.
Although the commission cited 'unforeseen circumstances' as the reason for the cancellation, this suspension is being viewed in the context of the tense political situation in the state. Former Chief Minister and senior Congress leader, Bhupesh Baghel, had previously demanded the postponement of the interviews, alleging falsification of the assessment and candidate ranking process.
The main demands of the Congress and Bhupesh Baghel included several points: publication of candidates' evaluated papers before the interviews, provision of free copies of papers to students who did not pass the selection; release of model answers for the main subjects of the exam and conducting a re-evaluation of the papers; establishment of strict rules and criteria for paper evaluators; and strict adherence to the 1:3 ratio (1 post: 3 candidates) during the interview selection.
The Congress pointed to serious irregularities in the paper evaluation and questioned the number of candidates invited for the interview. In response to these sharp attacks from the opposition, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) rejected all allegations. The BJP asserts that the commission set minimum qualifying scores, and the paper evaluation is conducted by expert specialists who ensure impartiality while maintaining the confidentiality of the candidates' identities.
Previously, the Preliminary examination (Prelims) took place on February 22, 2026, in district centers across the state. The Main examination (Mains) was held in the centers of Ambikapur, Bilaspur, Durg, Jagdalpur, and Raipur. The interviews, initially scheduled from September 20th to October 1st, 2026, have been suspended. The total number of vacancies is 265 in 20 state departments.
