Autonomous vehicles, drones, robots, and unmanned transport vehicles need to know their current location before they can decide on further actions. This capability depends on sensors such as accelerometers, gyroscopes, and magnetometers, which allow machines to understand their position and movement.
Most of these sensors are currently imported into India. Developing such components domestically requires deep expertise in hardware, algorithms, and calibration. Yaanendriya, a Bangalore-based company, is working to fill this gap.
The startup designs and manufactures control, navigation, and sensor systems for autonomous vehicles, serving both commercial and defense needs in India and abroad. The company was officially registered in February 2025 after nearly two years of research.
Technological and production leadership is provided by Vamshi Bharadwaj M V and Vyshak Y as CEO and COO. Vijay HP is responsible for development as the Chief Data Specialist, and Aravind Thumbur, an IIM Ahmedabad graduate, serves as Head of Staff, overseeing business and sales.
The team's initial products were sensors designed to track body movements after surgical procedures, helping doctors monitor patient recovery. It later became apparent that the same technology could be used to understand machine movement.
Yaanendriya's product line covers three components of the sensing and navigation stack. The first product, YDX, is a motion sensor set that can be installed in drones, cars, and surgical robots. These sensors are available in various classes: from simpler versions for everyday use to high-precision and rugged models for defense and industrial equipment.
The second component, SynCore, functions as a control system for the unmanned apparatus. It processes data from sensors, determining how the machine should move, correcting the trajectory if it deviates, and responding to any failures during flight. A special version developed for the military does not retain data and is capable of self-destructing if it falls into the wrong hands.
The third product, YPS, helps the machine determine its location. It currently uses satellite signals, but the company is actively developing radio-based positioning for environments where satellite signals are unavailable.
Yaanendriya competes with Indian companies such as Dilabs Systems and Aeron Systems, which also develop inertial navigation systems for the aerospace and defense industries. The main challenge is not just collecting data from sensors, as this data can be distorted by vibration, magnetic interference, and other sources of noise, leading to inaccuracies.
