Prices for gold and silver suddenly plummeted on Thursday immediately after the market opened. Both precious metals experienced a significant decline on the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) futures trading platform.
Silver dropped to 1.50 lakh rupees compared to the closing price on Wednesday. As a result of this major slump, silver became cheaper than its historical high by approximately 1.90 lakh rupees per kilogram. Meanwhile, the price of gold also felt a dip of about 2000 rupees.
The sharpest decrease occurred in the price of silver on the MCX commodities market. Silver with a December 4 expiry sharply fell to 2,30,221 rupees per kilogram. On the previous trading day, Wednesday, this precious metal closed at 2,34,786 rupees, representing a drop of 4,565 rupees in one go.
Following such a substantial decrease in silver prices, it became even more affordable relative to its historical peak. It is worth noting that at the end of January this year, the price of silver reached an all-time high above 4 lakh rupees per kilogram, touching the mark of 4,20,048 rupees per kilogram. According to the latest fall, silver can now be purchased 1,89,827 rupees cheaper than this maximum.
Not only did the futures prices for silver show a significant decline, but gold on MCX also became cheaper. On the previous business day, 10 grams of 24-carat gold with a October 5 expiry was priced at 1,52,470 rupees, but on Thursday at opening, it fell to 1,50,483 rupees. Thus, gold decreased by 1987 rupees for 10 grams.
Looking at the drop in gold prices on Thursday in the futures market, if we examine the trend for September, we can see that the yellow metal closed at 1,54,460 rupees on the last day of last month, August 31. Currently, gold is selling 3,977 rupees cheaper than this level for 10 grams.
