Samsung began the official release of One UI 9, which uses Android 17 as its base, for its Galaxy smartphones and tablets this Wednesday (16th). This update was initially launched on the latest models of the Galaxy S26 series, following a period of beta testing.
The stable launch started with the Galaxy S26, Galaxy S26+, and Galaxy S26 Ultra models. Samsung stated that the distribution of One UI 9 will occur progressively to other Galaxy devices. Furthermore, the interface had already been introduced on the new Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold8, and Galaxy Z Flip8.
New Features of One UI 9
The new system version brings several features. One of them is My FanCam, which can automatically track a chosen person in a video, adjusting the framing to keep them always centered.
The Now Brief feature has been enhanced with generative and editable cards, giving the user the option to select which data will be included in daily summaries. The Warranty and Care menu consolidates support tools, such as warranty verification, device diagnostics, repair estimates, and service scheduling.
One UI 9 also expands the artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities of Galaxy devices. Now Nudge provides relevant suggestions during certain activities, while Creative Studio can assist in generating ideas for future images.
Other improvements include a new view for translated conversations in Interpreter, greater capacity for Document Scan to process complex materials, such as curved or folded pages, and more organized summaries in Voice Recorder.
In terms of security, Samsung implemented Security Brief, which aggregates alerts about malicious software, applications from unknown sources, and unnecessary permissions. The company also highlights Privacy Alerts, which use AI directly on the device to detect potential privacy threats.
Expansion of Fraud Detection
Additionally, Scam Detection will be expanded to include more countries and languages, offering protection against fraudulent calls in markets that support this functionality.
Although Samsung has not released an exhaustive list of all devices that will receive Android 17 in this announcement, a company footnote points out the models compatible with Privacy Alerts, indicating the devices covered by the One UI 9 expansion.
This list includes categories such as the Galaxy S Line, Galaxy Z Line, and Galaxy Tab Line. However, it is important to note that this list should not be considered definitive. 9to5Google pointed out that the Galaxy S26+ is not on this list, despite Samsung confirming its place in the initial One UI 9 launch. Models such as Galaxy S25+ and S25 Ultra are also expected to receive the update.
Therefore, the presented list serves as a partial catalog of devices that will receive One UI 9 features, and not as a complete update schedule, given that Samsung guarantees the system will be released gradually to other Galaxy devices.
