The Architect Cinephile Club functions as a virtual environment dedicated to meeting, studying, and debating the interconnection between architecture and cinema. In each meeting, films and theoretical concepts serve as a basis for exploring themes such as space, perception, atmosphere, and architectural experience.
This club has already completed four editions, attracting over 150 participants, including both architects and students. Each session is structured around two films, aiming to promote analysis, reflection, and collective discussion.
In past editions, various topics were examined, such as Italian neorealism, the notion of inhabiting and spatial experience, Tim Burton's cinematic universe, and the application of Bruno Zevi's theory, as presented in Saber Ver a Arquitetura.
Focus on Stanley Kubrick's Work
In its fifth edition, the club's focus will be on the work of Stanley Kubrick. This filmmaker is known for the rigor with which he constructs his images, demonstrating how elements such as space, composition, lighting, scale, and movement actively function within his narratives.
The meetings will specifically address the films '2001: A Space Odyssey' and 'The Shining', analyzing how the sets can shape atmospheres, generate feelings, and integrate into the cinematic story itself. Although the activity is primarily aimed at architects and students in the field, it is also open to anyone interested in art, cinema, and visual culture.
Meeting Schedule
The detailed schedule includes sessions on Stanley Kubrick's life and trajectory, an introduction to his cinema, and specific analyses of '2001: A Space Odyssey'. There will be moments dedicated to lesson summaries and initial discussions about the impressions generated by the films.
The scheduled dates are: 10/08 (8 PM) for the introduction; 10/09 (8 PM) for the first part of Kubrick's cinema and analysis of '2001'; 10/13 (8 PM) for the summary and discussion of '2001'; 10/16 (8 PM) for the second part of Kubrick's cinema and analysis of 'The Shining'; and 10/20 (8 PM) for the summary and debate on 'The Shining'.
