The new version of the Caravelle eHybrid, equipped with the 4MOTION all-wheel-drive system, is preparing for launch on the roads of South Africa. This versatile model has been completely rethought to suit the lifestyle, work, and travel of South African residents.
Thanks to its hybrid powertrain, which combines electric and gasoline energy, the vehicle can develop a total power of 180 kW with the 4MOTION system. It also offers intelligent all-wheel drive and a spacious seven-seater cabin that easily adapts to various needs.
At the heart of the new Caravelle is a high-voltage lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 19.7 kWh. This battery allows the charge to be restored from 10% to 80% in approximately 26 minutes using direct current. For daily short trips, such as commuting to work or school, most routes can be covered without consuming fuel.
The electric all-wheel drive of the Caravelle represents a significant improvement in capabilities. Two electric motors work together with a highly efficient 1.5-liter turbocharged TSI gasoline engine, providing a total power of 180 kW when operating with 4MOTION. Whether the driver is navigating wet mountain passes or uneven dirt roads, four available driving modes—Eco, Comfort, Sport, and Individual—ensure optimal vehicle tuning.
The return of this iconic model is accompanied by a choice of three two-tone options and one deep black pearl effect option. The classic two-tone finishes are highlighted by a chrome strip running through the center of the body. The impressive IQ.Light LED matrix headlights can selectively switch off individual light beams when oncoming traffic is detected to prevent dazzling approaching drivers. The dynamic turn signal, thanks to its cameras and radar systems, can illuminate the turn even before the driver begins to turn.
Inside, the Caravelle accommodates up to seven passengers thanks to its flexible modular layout. The rear seats can slide, recline, and be removed, creating a cargo space of up to 4.1 m³. There is also the option to create a 'face-to-face' configuration by moving the second row of seats backward. An innovative multifunctional table can be moved between any rows of seats, making the cabin both productive and conducive to conversation.
The digital cockpit includes a standard 10-inch instrument display and a 10-inch infotainment touchscreen with full smartphone integration. One of the outstanding innovations is the standard electric stationary air conditioning system. This feature allows the hybrid vehicle to cool, ventilate, or heat the cabin while charging, parked, or camping, all without combustion emissions. When driving out on a cold high-altitude morning, the cabin will already be at the desired temperature before the driver gets behind the wheel.
