The airport, which draws inspiration from the local Andhra culture, features artisanal products, including lacquered wooden toys created according to a tradition dating back 400 years. These toys are made from soft wood and natural dyes.
At the entrance of the airport in Bogapuram, guests are greeted by the large-scale installation Etikoppaka.
Bobbili Veena
The traditional string musical instrument known as the Bobbili Veena is handcrafted in the town of Bobbili, Vizianagaram, and is part of Andhra's musical heritage. In 2011, this instrument was granted geographical indication.
The airport also displays elements of the traditional Andhra leather puppet theatre, where light and skillfully crafted puppets bring to life stories from epics and folklore.
Geometric patterns, traditionally drawn at the entrances of Andhra homes as signs of hospitality and prosperity, are used at the airport in the form of floor mosaics in transitional areas and at the gates.
The airport's design also incorporates Kalamkari motifs from Machilipatnam and Jamdani from Uppada, which are translated into interior and ceiling details, depicting floral, avian, and geometric ornaments.
Furthermore, the airport is named after Alliri Sitara Rama Raju, a legendary freedom fighter and leader of the Rampa rebellion, lending a piece of Andhra's history to the building.
