The global head of DP World for economic zones stated on Wednesday that the company is confident that the Strait of Hormuz will eventually reopen, but for now, the logistics giant is relying on its operational flexibility to continue moving cargo.
Abdullah Al Hashemi announced at a closed briefing during the Arab Media Summit in Dubai that the strait will open, although he could not specify the exact timing or format of this opening.
Al Hashemi noted that Hormuz leads into the Arabian Gulf, forming a 'natural waterway that delivers cargo where it needs to go.' He also emphasized that over one hundred million people live along the strait, according to his estimates, and that the strait must open for the situation to normalize.
He added that the country is currently in a more stable position due to its geographical location. Previously, DP World reported that revenue in the first half of 2026 grew by 13.1 percent compared to the same period last year, reaching $12.7 billion.
Excluding Jebel Ali, where maritime traffic sharply decreased after the escalation of conflict in the Strait of Hormuz, DP World handled 6.5 percent more containers than in the same period last year. Al Hashemi explained that the company's advantage lies in its diversified portfolio of assets distributed globally, which has allowed it to manage them effectively to mitigate the current situation.
This year, DP World has already moved over 500,000 containers overland from the country's east coast to the UAE Gulf coast, where major cities including Dubai and Abu Dhabi are located. The company manages economic zones such as Fujairah, which is located on the Gulf of Oman coast on the UAE's east coast, unlike the main hub in Jebel Ali.
Al Hashemi stressed the critical importance of economic zones to the DP World ecosystem, noting that the company is not only a port operator but also a developer, manager, and logistics and maritime company. Furthermore, Group Chairman Essa Kazim announced last month that two new terminals being developed in Fujairah will provide greater flexibility for cargo owners and strengthen the UAE's position as a vital trade and logistics hub.
