Weather forecast points to frost in the South and high temperatures of up to 40°C in Northern Brazil

A combination of a cold air mass and a moisture channel is altering the weather in various parts of Brazil between Wednesday, the 16th, and Thursday, the 17th. According to Inmet, the country will present contrasting scenarios: frost expected during the early mornings in the South, and intense heat with low humidity in the North and Northeast.

Projections indicate that there will be rain showers accompanied by thunderstorms in the Southeast, Central-West, and North regions. Simultaneously, the drop in temperatures will extend across the states located in the south-central part of the country.

The influence of a high-pressure system linked to the cold air is keeping temperatures low in the Southern states. There is a chance of frost occurring in the center, north, and in mountainous areas of Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina, as well as in the south and southeast of Paraná, where thermometers may reach close to 0°C in certain locations.

In Porto Alegre (RS), the minimum temperature forecast for Wednesday (16th) will be 9°C. Meanwhile, Curitiba (PR) is expected to record a maximum of only 17°C on Thursday (17th), under heavy cloud cover.

A moisture channel established between western Amazonia and the Southeast is ensuring rain in eastern and northern Minas Gerais, Espírito Santo, and Rio de Janeiro. In the São Paulo capital, the climatic highlight is the cold, with temperatures projected between 13°C and 17°C on Wednesday.

More information about the forecast

In the Central-West region, climatic instability is intensifying in Mato Grosso, Goiás, and the Federal District. In the North Region, Amazonas received a yellow warning for potential danger due to the intensity of the rain. Manaus (AM) and Palmas (TO) are expected to register high temperatures, reaching 37°C and 40°C, respectively.

The interior of the Northeast remains hot and dry, especially in the agricultural area known as Matopiba (which includes Maranhão, Tocantins, Piauí, and Bahia). Among the capitals of this region, Teresina (PI) is expected to register the highest temperature, reaching 38°C.

In summary, the forecast combines rain and thunderstorms in the Southeast, Central-West, and North, with cold temperatures in the south-central part and dry heat in parts of the Northeast. The possibility of frost in the South accentuates the contrast between the various meteorological conditions predicted for the next two days.
