The Dubai Electronic Security Center (DESC) announced the upcoming launch of an artificial intelligence model designed to identify deepfake videos. This model is named SARAAB.
SARAAB analyzes facial features using a heat map, enabling it to detect any hidden or 'synthetic' layers that may have been superimposed on video material. According to Hassan Majid Al-Hazraji, Senior Executive Director of Artificial Intelligence at DESC, the model will analyze the entire video, even if the deepfake is present only in the last 30 seconds of a two-minute clip.
This tool, which is scheduled to be put into operation by the end of the current year, boasts an accuracy of 91 percent, which is one of the highest figures globally. The announcement was made by DESC on the first day of the Gisec Global cybersecurity exhibition and conference, held at the Dubai Exhibition Centre in Expo City from September 16 to 18.
The SARAAB model will be available on the Hugging Face platform, an open platform that allows users to view the source code and make changes or improvements to it. Furthermore, it was noted that this is the first model developed by a government entity in the Arab region.
