Over 3,500 Ebola Deaths Recorded in DRC

According to data provided by the country's government and reported by Reuters, the total number of confirmed cases of hemorrhagic fever Ebola in the Democratic Republic of Congo has reached 7,258 people, with 3,510 fatalities.

In the last two weeks, there has been a significant increase in incidence: the number of cases has risen by more than a thousand, and the number of deaths by five hundred.

The Minister of Health of the DRC, Samuel Roger Kamba Mulamba, reported that the rate of infection spread is beginning to slow down. Previously, up to 120 new cases were recorded daily, but this figure has now approached 80. Furthermore, no new cases have been registered in 10 out of 62 affected health zones for over 22 days.

Nevertheless, the UN coordinator for Ebola, Julien Arne, emphasized that despite successes in individual areas, the epidemic remains large-scale and dangerous. WHO representative Olivier Le Paul noted that claiming the peak of the outbreak is over prematurely, and suppressing the outbreak will require a long time and serious efforts.

Recently, the infection was detected in the seventh province of Congo—South Ubangi, which indicates an ongoing threat.
