In Koramangala, Bangalore, there was a broken sidewalk for a long time that caused problems for local residents. Despite repeated complaints about fixing the defect, Siddharth Dialani, the founder and CEO of BharatAgri, decided to repair it himself, spending 2700 rupees from his own pocket.
Siddharth Dialani shared before and after photos of the sidewalk on the social network X. He specified that this section is about 500 meters from his residential complex, and he regularly walks along this road. After observing the damaged sidewalk for a long time, he first contacted the relevant authorities for its restoration.
According to Dialani, he submitted an application through the Bangalore Metropolitan Bureau (BBMP) portal. Additionally, he sent an email to the Greater Bangalore Authority (GBA) and filed a complaint on the hotline. Although he received automated responses, the problem was never resolved. He also tried contacting some officials and engineers whose numbers were listed on the BBMP website, but many of these numbers were inactive.
When all attempts to get the sidewalk repaired from the authorities failed, Dialani decided to carry out the repair himself. He got help from a friend working in real estate. The friend provided a supervisor and workers, and Dialani paid for the workers' labor himself. About 1700 rupees were spent on materials such as cement and necessary hand tools. The total cost of the entire repair, including labor and other expenses, amounted to approximately 2700 rupees.
In an interview with India Today, Dialani noted that if the government had spent just 2700 rupees, this problem could have been solved immediately. He emphasized that the sidewalk had been broken for several years, and the lack of a ramp in this section created difficulties for people using wheelchairs or strollers.
After completing the work, Dialani reported that now parents can move around with strollers, and elderly people in wheelchairs can easily use this path.
The post with photos of the before and after sidewalk generated widespread resonance on social media, receiving about 3.9 lakh views. In his post, Dialani tagged people such as Kiran Majumdar-Sho and Nihil Kant. He also stated the need to activate similar initiatives in other areas of Bangalore. In a subsequent message, he called on residents to work together to improve more areas of the city.
A unique aspect of this case was that the work, which Dialani had appealed for through multiple channels, he ultimately carried out at his own expense.
