World Health Organization recognizes Chile as rabies-free country for dogs

The World Health Organization has officially confirmed the status of the Republic of Chile as a country where dog-transmitted rabies is no longer a public health concern.

Chile has become the first country in South America to achieve such a significant result. This success was made possible by long-term national measures implemented over more than half a century.

The sustainability of this victory was ensured by several areas of work: conducting free mass vaccination of dogs, carefully monitoring the appearance of new cases of the disease, constantly improving laboratory diagnostic methods, and guaranteeing the availability of post-exposure prophylaxis.
