Hyundai plans to launch a new car model in the Indian market. The company has officially confirmed the name of its upcoming SUV—the Bayon. Although Hyundai sells this vehicle under this name in the global market, it is a crossover, but in India, the company intends to present it as a full-fledged SUV.
This vehicle will belong to the mid-size SUV class. Currently, Hyundai has not provided official information about the car, but it is intended to fill the gap between the existing Venue and Creta models. Some leaked photos suggest that this model looks like a longer and more vertically oriented SUV.
Reports indicate that the length of this vehicle could reach 4.18 meters, positioning it in the same segment as the Venue. Hyundai might release the Bayon at a price higher than the Venue but lower than the Creta. The car's design will feature a high body, a vertical profile, noticeable body cladding, and a flat roofline.
The front end will be equipped with slim LED daytime running lights that complement separate headlight clusters. To give the car an SUV look, it will be fitted with massive wheels and roof rails. Interior shots have also surfaced.
The vehicle may be equipped with a dual display system, including an infotainment system and a digital instrument cluster. Additional features could include a 360-degree view camera, connected car technology, smartphone wireless connectivity, wireless charging, and ventilated front seats.
Several powertrain options will be offered. The car may come with a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated engine, likely the same one used in the Creta. Some reports suggest the availability of a 1.2-liter turbocharged petrol engine, as well as a 1.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine capable of producing 120 hp and 170 Nm of torque.
The most significant feature of the Bayon will be the option for it to be manufactured using Compressed Natural Gas (CNG). This will allow the Bayon to directly compete with the Maruti Suzuki Vitara. The company is targeting consumers who want both a large SUV and low running costs.
Hyundai has officially confirmed the model's name and begun publishing related teasers, indicating an imminent launch. The Hyundai Bayon is expected to hit the market before the Diwali holidays. The estimated price of the vehicle will range from 8 to 15 lakh rupees.
