Residents highly appreciated this work, noting that the cleanup contributes to improving the city's appearance and raising awareness about the need to maintain cleanliness in public places. One resident stated: 'The sanitary work in the city is truly commendable. I am genuinely proud of them, given the National Service's involvement in sanitation and environmental protection here in Kinshasa province.'
Kinshasa has long faced issues with waste management and pollution, leading residents and authorities to seek ways to improve sanitary conditions throughout the capital. The workers, often referred to as 'builders,' hope that their efforts will help change the image of the city and encourage residents to take greater responsibility for the environment.
This cleanup campaign is part of an initiative launched by President Félix Tshisekedi. In May, he called on members of the National Service to intensify their efforts to contribute to the country's development, including sanitation and environmental protection. This initiative is also part of broader plans to reintegrate youth previously involved in gang activities into productive employment and public service.
