China concluded the group stage of the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya by securing a confident 105-61 victory over the reigning champion Philippines on Monday. This win allowed China to advance to the quarterfinals, where they will face Saudi Arabia.
The team of Guo Shicang, which had already guaranteed its spot in the final eight, demonstrated the most striking moment of the tournament against the Philippine team, which previously halted China's golden hopes in the Asian Games semifinals in Hangzhou three years ago.
China quickly took the initiative, gaining an early advantage. The situation changed when Hu Mingshuang came on as a substitute and scored three consecutive three-pointers. By the end of the first quarter, the Chinese team held a 20-point lead, with the score at 36-16.
The pressure continued into the second period. China's fast transition and ball movement repeatedly broke through the Philippine defense, and the attacking play provided additional scoring opportunities. Another 30 points increased the lead to 66-30 at halftime.
China's scoring pace slowed in the third quarter, but the chances for the Philippines were already slim. The reigning champion managed to score only 10 points in this period and trailed by 79-40 before China widened the gap further in the fourth quarter, securing a 44-point victory.
In attack, Wang Junze led China with 20 points and 14 rebounds, while Liao Sanning scored 14 points, and Hu Mingshuang added 13. Jiao Bociao and Li Yuezhou each contributed 11 points, and Hu Jinqiu and Cui Yunsi scored 10 points. Cui also collected 12 rebounds, and seven Chinese players recorded double-digit statistics.
China won all three matches in Group C comfortably, defeating Kazakhstan 99-61, Bahrain 105-59, and the Philippines 105-61, thus taking first place in the group with a 3-0 record. This result also ended the Philippines' attempt to defend their title, as the team (1-2) failed to qualify for one of the two quarterfinal spots available to the three teams finishing third.
