The Friendship Sino-Central African Hospital in Bangui is undergoing a reconstruction and expansion project valued at 11.5 million US dollars. This initiative is being implemented as part of China's and the Central African Republic's efforts to strengthen the country's healthcare system.
The hospital, which was built in 1990 with China's support, has deteriorated over time. Currently, Chinese specialists are working alongside colleagues from the Central African Republic, overseeing the restoration process.
The project includes not only the repair of existing facilities but also the construction of new buildings, as well as the creation of an intensive care unit and a telemedicine center. Medical workers note that these improvements should increase access to specialized treatment and strengthen the country's health potential.
In addition to providing medical services, the hospital functions as an educational institution for the University of Bangui, offering an environment for training medical students and professionals.
Economist Ganazoui Yandoko stated that the hospital has played an important role for decades in providing basic medical care, especially for low-income populations. He added that thanks to the infrastructure restoration, it is hoped that Chinese medical technologies will be introduced, which will help avoid costly medical evacuations for a fragile economy like that of the Central African Republic.
Professor Emmanuel Yantamibi noted that the modernized facility will provide better conditions for patient treatment. As part of efforts to improve the treatment of serious diseases, the project also includes the introduction of new diagnostic equipment, including a scanner.
For the Central African Republic, this reconstruction is expected to improve the quality of medical services provided and deepen medical cooperation with China.
