Volvo revealed on Monday, the 15th, the 2027 version of the XC60 model, which has received an aesthetic overhaul and a significant technical change in its history: the installation of a 41.2 kWh battery. This new battery increases the SUV's electric capacity to up to 200 km on the European WLTP cycle, representing more than two and a half times the distance covered by the currently available plug-in hybrid model.
This battery was placed in the vehicle's floor, replacing the previous 18.8 kWh unit (with 37.9 kWh usable), but without affecting the trunk volume, which remains at 468 liters. When the combustion engine is active, Volvo projects a total range exceeding 1,200 km. Furthermore, the AC charging power was increased from 6.4 kW to 11 kW, allowing the battery to be fully charged in approximately four hours. The system does not feature DC fast charging functionality.
There are two electrified options available. The T6 AWD Long Range configuration combines a 2.0 turbo gasoline engine with 180 hp and a 177 hp electric motor on the rear axle, resulting in a combined power of 356 hp and an electric range of 200 km. The T8 AWD Long Range uses the same gasoline engine, now with 250 hp, reaching 461 combined hp, with 0 to 100 km/h acceleration in 4.8 seconds and offering 189 km of electric range.
At the base of the European offering is the B5 AWD, equipped with the 2.0 turbo engine of 250 hp and 36.7 kgfm, plus a 48V mild hybrid system.
The external modifications are subtle, including a finer grille, redesigned bumpers, hood, and fenders, new wheels in 20 and 21-inch sizes, and the introduction of the unprecedented Heather Bronze color. The Matrix LED headlights maintain the Thor's Hammer visual identity but with a more refined design, and the rear features darkened taillights.
Inside, the dashboard and door trims have been rethought, incorporating wood and ventilated Nappa leather details. The 11.2-inch vertical screen operates with the Volvo Car UX interface and integrates the Google Gemini artificial intelligence assistant, which can be activated by voice to help plan routes, search for stops, and respond to messages.
New sensors, cameras, and radars have been added to enable features such as automatic emergency braking and steering, cyclist proximity warning before door opening, and a 360-degree camera with a three-dimensional view.
The same long-range plug-in package is also available for the XC90, presenting an electric range of up to 160 km.
Orders for the renewed XC60, including the Black Edition, can already be placed in specific European markets, with production expected to begin by the end of this year. Volvo has not yet released a schedule for Brazil, although there is an expectation that the vehicle will arrive in the country in 2027.
Currently, in the Brazilian market, the XC60 is sold in four versions, all equipped with the 462 hp and 72.3 kgfm T8 AWD plug-in hybrid, 18.8 kWh battery, and 48 km electric range: Plus, starting at R$ 459,950; Ultra, costing R$ 509,950; Ultra Dark, for R$ 519,950; and Polestar Engineered, for R$ 539,950.
