British researchers conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis that established a statistically significant positive correlation between exposure to particulate matter and nitrogen monoxide in the atmosphere and an increased probability of death by suicide.
Furthermore, the analysis showed a link between air pollution and an increase in suicide attempts, as well as a rise in the frequency of suicidal thoughts.
The narrative review noted that positive associations also exist with other types of air pollutants, as well as with noise pollution levels.
The results of this study were officially published in the scientific journal Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health.
