Despite its external resemblance to living aquatic creatures, the presented fish is a robot. This robotic model was created by the Chinese company Fulldepth, located in the neighboring country of India. The company positions this robotic fish as an underwater remotely operated vehicle (ROV).
Visually, this robot mimics a real Arowana fish (dragonfish). The goal of creating this device is to breed Arowana fish, which are known for their high cost and demanding care requirements in aquariums.
The body of the robotic fish is made of a soft and elastic material, specifically silicone. Integrated molding and metallic coating were used to give it shiny, scaly structures similar to a real Arowana. The robot is available in gold and red colors, and some media reports claim that the color of this robotic fish can be customized individually.
The company stated that when the robotic fish swims among real fish, it becomes extremely difficult to identify.
Instead of traditional propellers, the device uses biomimetic soft body propulsion technology. Thanks to this technology, the robot is capable of swimming and moving in water at speeds of up to 1.9 kilometers per hour. The Chinese firm equipped the device with a lithium-ion battery, which provides operation for approximately 10–12 hours on a single charge. An additional platform for wireless inductive charging is also provided.
According to media reports, the system utilizes the Fish Neuro-Drive model, which employs artificial intelligence algorithms and high-precision orientation control sensors. This allows the robot to move naturally.
