The launch of the iPhone Duo last week raised speculation about its name, but the final decision, revealed in recent days, suggests that Apple may have plans to expand its line to include various foldable device options.
According to journalist Mark Gurman, known for his predictions about the company, Apple intends to introduce more foldable iPhones in the future. He suggested that the name 'Duo' would be advantageous for accommodating other complementary models.
Gurman speculates that Apple could present a larger version, named Duo Max, a smaller version nicknamed Duo Mini, and even an entry-level model similar to the iPhone Duo SE. He noted that these nicknames sound more natural than terms like 'iPhone Ultra Max.'
If the company follows this strategy, it could create direct competition for Samsung's offerings. Recently, Samsung launched the Galaxy Z Fold 8 in passport format (similar to the base Apple version) and the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, maintaining the traditional bar design.
Gurman also predicts that Apple will become a dominant force in the market, which will force the rest of the industry to increase its investments in the category, potentially unsettling fans of the South Korean manufacturer, which has been active in the foldable smartphone segment for seven years.
The iPhone Duo was officially presented by Apple on September 9th, along with the iPhone 18 Pro line, marking the manufacturer's entry into this segment. This specific model adopts the most compact proportion, known as 'passport,' and features a titanium-built structure.
Regarding the displays, the device has a 5.4-inch external screen and a 7.6-inch foldable OLED internal panel, which features an anti-reflective nano-texture finish to help reduce crease visibility.
Technical specifications include the Apple A20 Pro processor, a dual camera system with a 48MP main rear lens and a 12MP front camera. The iOS 27 interface has been adapted to suit the new screen dimensions.
In Brazil, the pre-sale of the iPhone Duo is scheduled to begin on October 16, 2026, with deliveries and availability in stores expected from October 23. The official prices set by Apple have been disclosed.
