JanAI Technology Private Limited, a social impact enterprise within the JanAI movement, has announced its goal to provide artificial intelligence-based services to 100 million households across India over the next three years.
These services will be delivered through a network of 10,000 JanAI cafes managed by trained local entrepreneurs. The first version of the platform is already operational in nine JanAI cafes, including seven located in the Mysuru and Prayagraj districts.
Vishvesh Pai has joined JanAI Technology as a co-founder and CEO. He brings over two decades of experience from companies such as Atlassian, ServiceNow, Amazon, and Samsung. Madan Padaki, the founder of JanAI, will take on the role of co-founder and chief evangelist, while Head Held High Foundation will partner in developing community capabilities and sustainability.
JanAI Technology does not develop its own foundational models. Instead, the company intends to utilize open and Indian language models, creating technologies tailored to the specific needs of local communities.
The platform includes a voice pipeline designed for Indian dialects and noisy rural environments, AI agent orchestration, and a consent architecture compliant with India's Personal Data Protection Law. The company is also developing services around public digital infrastructure, aiming to simplify access to government schemes, employment, finance, and other services via voice.
One of the company's products, JanAI Asha, is a voice assistant accessible via phone call or a two-way application in Indian languages. It is designed to function without the need for typing or using English.
JanAI Adopt will provide the platform layer for AI agents, knowledge, program compliance, and data privacy, while JanAI Bazaar will consolidate financial, medical, agricultural, educational, labor resources, SMEs, and government programs into a single marketplace.
The physical component of this model is the JanAI cafes. These cafes will be staffed by trained entrepreneurs from local communities who will help residents access AI-supported services and earn a share of the results they generate.
The company aims to onboard 100,000 citizens by March 2027. Over three years, it plans to establish cafes in all taluks and build a network of 10,000 cafes. Madan Padaki stated that the goal is for each cafe to become an enterprise owned by the community it serves. Padaki noted: 'I envision JanAI cafes as enterprises belonging to the village where they are located. When tangible results are achieved, the entrepreneur who delivers them also earns income.'
Initial services include access to social security benefits, job searching through the Bluedots model in partnership with EkStep Foundation, and financial services through integration with solutions like Whatsloan.
Pai emphasized that his previous experience involved creating products for people who already had internet access. He believes that JanAI presents a different challenge. Pai stated: 'I spent twenty years building products for people who already had the internet. The next billion people, who have connectivity but still lack answers, will be a more complex and significant problem.'
Head Held High Foundation will support this initiative by training local youth as solution creators and assisting local entrepreneurs in establishing and managing JanAI cafes. The foundation reported that over the past 15 years, it has worked in more than 150 districts, impacting over 500,000 households, transforming over 50,000 rural youth, and supporting over 3,000 women entrepreneurs.
JanAI Technology's current task is to transform its ambitious goal into a sustainable 'last-mile' model. Their approach places local entrepreneurs between the AI and the people they aim to help, betting that accessibility, language, and trust will be as important as the technology itself.
