Silicon Valley Engineer Switches from Programming to Growing Millions of Native Butterfly Saplings

Since early childhood, Sohail Madan recalls stopping at gas stations to clean insects off car windshields. He notes that there were many such insects back then, and everyone did it.

Today, that scene seems distant. He received an engineering education and built a career in Silicon Valley. However, coding on the computer stopped seeming like the right choice for him. A trip to a self-sufficient farm in Santa Cruz changed his perception of what he desired.

He remembers working near a chicken coop and realizing how much he enjoyed spending time outdoors, doing physical labor, and being close to nature. This helped him make his decision. Observing children exploring the farm also clarified his choice; he saw himself in those children who were fascinated by dirt, insects, and plants. Soon, he left his engineering career.

In 2010, Sohail joined the Bombay Natural History Society and spent 13 years working on nature conservation projects. In April 2023, he founded the WildTales Foundation. His efforts have begun to contribute to the return of nature to forests and communities.

Finding native plants was a difficult task because nurseries preferred ornamental species. Therefore, Sohail and his colleagues created a local nursery that now produces nearly 10 lakh saplings annually. This is especially important for the Common Mormon butterfly, whose caterpillars feed on curry leaves. If curry leaves disappear from the area, the butterfly cannot simply move to another ornamental plant.

This idea led to the implementation of the 'Delhi Butterfly Corridor' project. Under this project, schools, parks, hospitals, societies, and private homes plant native species, creating intermediate points that help butterflies move across the city.

Madan advises that creating such a garden does not require a large area. He recommends abandoning chemical pesticides, growing native plants, ensuring year-round water availability, planting bird-friendly plants, and allowing some areas to remain untidy. He believes that the healthiest gardens are not always the neatest, as fallen leaves, wild grasses, and natural growth can serve as shelter for insects and improve soil. Sometimes, in his opinion, one needs to take a step back.

Furthermore, he emphasizes the importance of involving oneself in the process: 'If you are creating a butterfly garden, leave space for yourself in it. Put a chair there. Have your morning tea there,' he says. The more we pay attention to nature, the more connected we become to it.'

Within the framework of cultural and humanitarian cooperation, the possibility of expanding the network of Uzbek cultural centers in Korea, developing Uzbek language courses, and holding joint cultural events was discussed. It was also proposed to translate works of Uzbek classical literature into Korean.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev thanked his compatriots for their contribution to the socio-economic development of the country and assured that all presented initiatives would be carefully considered, and the most significant projects would receive state support.

As part of his visit, Mirziyoyev also held talks with the President of the Republic of Korea, Lee Jae-myung, and the Speaker of the National Assembly, Cho Jeong-sik, as well as with other representatives of the Korean leadership. The visit program includes participation in the Uzbekistan-Korea business forum and the first 'Central Asia – Republic of Korea' summit. Previously, it was announced that Uzbekistan and South Korea would form a portfolio of more than one hundred joint projects worth billions of dollars, covering industry, energy, transport, digital technologies, biotechnology, and microelectronics.

Exein raises $270 million to create security system for physical AI

As artificial intelligence integrates into all machines around us capable of making independent decisions, there is a risk of causing harm to people if these devices are hacked. In this regard, Exein has raised $270 million to develop a new type of protection for AI.

Exein announced the raising of $270 million, which boosted its valuation to $1.7 billion on September 15. This made the company the most valuable cybersecurity startup in Europe.

Previously, concerns focused on hacking websites or social media accounts, but now AI has acquired much greater significance for humanity. Such systems include factory robots, drone delivery vehicles, autonomous cars, and smart medical devices, which are classified as Physical AI—machines capable of independent thought.

The risks now extend beyond just data; a hacked robot can cause physical harm, and a malfunction in an autonomous vehicle can lead to an accident. Old cybersecurity tools designed to protect servers and laptops are not suitable for protecting real-world moving machines.

Exein specializes in creating security specifically for this type of Physical AI. Instead of protecting cloud accounts or logins, the company protects the code running inside these machines. Exein's technology is already used in over 2 billion connected devices.

Earlier this year, they implemented a system called Photon, which operates at the 'kernel level,' meaning the deepest part of the device's software. This system is designed to prevent an attack before it occurs, rather than mitigating its consequences. Such speed is critically important, for example, for an autonomous car that requires instantaneous reaction.

Exein describes its product as a kind of 'digital immune system' for everything connected to the internet. Furthermore, the company is developing its own AI model specifically designed to detect and stop attacks on these physical machines. Since people already trust AI-driven machines, the consequences of a hack become not just digital, but take on a physical nature.

This is precisely the problem Exein aims to solve. This funding round demonstrates the direction of cybersecurity development: protection must extend not only to cloud services but also to the streets, factories, and the airspace above us. Europe now has the most valuable cybersecurity company created specifically to protect machines that allow AI to interact with the real world.

Windows 11 users should pay attention, as Microsoft has released an urgent update to fix significant flaws, mainly those associated with the September 2026 Patch Tuesday. This is a mandatory update and applies to versions 26H1, 25H2, and 24H2 of the operating system.

It is worth noting that the term Patch Tuesday refers to a cycle of security updates for Windows that Microsoft usually releases on the second Tuesday of each month. The September edition was released on the 8th, through package KB5124008. After this date, various user reports emerged regarding difficulties after installing this update.

Microsoft itself admitted that package KB5124008 is causing problems with USB audio equipment, the Remote Desktop Services (RDS) component, and file sharing between Windows 11 and Linux virtual machines. Such and other issues are being addressed by updates KB5129195 (for 25H2 and 24H2) and KB5129194 (for 26H1).

Both packages are classified as 'out-of-band,' meaning they were released outside the usual Microsoft update schedule, specifically to deal with emergency occurrences. Furthermore, a privilege escalation vulnerability that was not fully corrected by Patch Tuesday was also addressed.

However, not all problems have been resolved. Flaws related to USB audio may still persist in certain devices. Additionally, issues involving File History and certain AMD graphics cards, also linked to the September Patch Tuesday, remain unresolved, as Microsoft has not yet acknowledged them.

In recent days, there has been an increase in reports from users of Lenovo and HP notebooks experiencing issues with package KB5121003 (corresponding to the August 2026 Patch Tuesday), although Microsoft has not yet issued a statement on these cases.

Package KB5129195 (or KB5129194, in the case of Windows 11 26H1) requires mandatory installation, implying that the procedure must be executed automatically. However, if the user wishes to speed up the installation, instructions are available for doing so.
