Study shows that NMDA receptor autoantibodies reduce the severity of depression after TBI

American researchers conducted a study that demonstrated a link between the level of NMDA receptor autoantibodies and the subsequent condition of patients after traumatic brain injury (TBI).

According to the results, higher concentrations of these autoantibodies, detected before patients sustained TBI, correlate with a reduction in the severity of depressive states and post-traumatic stress disorder after the injury.

Furthermore, as indicated in the journal Molecular Psychiatry, these specific autoantibodies are also associated with a decrease in the overall number of cases of psychotropic medication use.
