Teradyne opens office in Bangalore to strengthen India's semiconductor ecosystem

Bangalore has gained another global player in the semiconductor sector, expanding its technological ecosystem. Teradyne, a worldwide supplier of automated test equipment for semiconductors and electronics, as well as advanced robotics systems, has opened its first specialized office in India, located in Bangalore.

The official opening of the office at Bagmane Cosmos Tech Park took place on September 15th. Attendees included the Karnataka Minister for Home Affairs, Information Technology, Biotechnology, and Electronics, Priyanka Hardge; senior Teradyne executives; industry representatives; and Dr. Avinash Menon, an IAS officer and Director of KIDS.

The new Bangalore office will serve as a local hub for client engagement, application support, training, and developing strategic partnerships. This is expected to strengthen Teradyne's collaboration with India's semiconductor and electronics ecosystem amid the country's expansion of manufacturing, packaging, and testing capabilities.

Hardge welcomed Teradyne's decision to establish a permanent presence in Bangalore, noting that this move demonstrates confidence in Karnataka's technological ecosystem. He emphasized that the government is always striving to create conditions for innovation to flourish.

The Minister also mentioned the state's 21 Centers of Excellence, which brings together industry, academia, startups, and government to solve practical problems and work on intellectual property. Hardge expressed a desire for Teradyne to collaborate with various institutions and centers of excellence, including opportunities within the semiconductor supply chain.

He highlighted the state's approach, where the government acts as an early adopter for implementing ready technologies. Hardge stated that the Government of Karnataka is ready to support the company's success and considers itself the first customer for innovations. The Minister added that the opening of Teradyne's first office in Bangalore is a 'strong sign of trust' in the ecosystem, and the state is prepared to work with the company to deepen the semiconductor sector and create new opportunities.

Teradyne's arrival coincides with the expansion of India's manufacturing, packaging, and testing capabilities in semiconductors. The company reported that the Bangalore office will help it support the growing base of chip manufacturers and electronics producers in the country, while also adding testing and measurement capabilities to the semiconductor value chain.

Furthermore, this will allow Teradyne to interact more closely with the Karnataka ecosystem, which covers semiconductor design, prototyping, fabless innovation, OSAT, advanced manufacturing, and engineering talent. Greg Smith, President and CEO of Teradyne, noted that the company sees India at a critical stage of its semiconductor development. He stated that establishing a permanent office in Bangalore reflects the company's long-term commitment to the market, as India is at a turning point in its semiconductor journey.

Smith added that as India increases investment in domestic manufacturing, packaging, and testing, Teradyne intends to collaborate closely with customers, government partners, and the broader ecosystem. Teradyne develops advanced robotics systems and automated test equipment. Its solutions for semiconductor and electronics testing cover the AI device supply chain from wafer to data center, and its robotics business supports automation in manufacturing, logistics, and data center operations. The Bangalore office provides the company with a dedicated base to expand these activities as India builds its semiconductor ecosystem.
