Renu Hans, a 45-year-old woman who is deaf and mute, managed to resume her studies after 22 years and achieve significant success. Thanks to her persistence, she scored 406 out of 500 (82%) after starting her education.
Renu Hans, who lives in the camp of displaced Kashmiri Pandits in Jammu, resumed her education through the 'Jammu-Kashmir State Open Schooling' (JKSOS). Although returning to school after such a long break was not easy, family support, especially from her son Naman Kaul, gave her the strength to move forward.
Renu's achievement is particularly valuable because she is deaf and non-verbal. Her husband, Bablu Kaul, is also deaf and works as a tailor. The family's financial situation is modest, but it was under these difficult circumstances that Renu decided to fulfill her long-held dream.
Renu's son, Naman Kaul, is currently in the 12th grade. He constantly motivates his mother to study. In addition to teaching his mother computer skills, Naman is preparing her for admission to the 12th grade.
Renu's dreams are not limited to this. She aims to complete her education and obtain a government job to become self-sufficient. Naman explains that his mother's desire to work in public service stems from the fact that many people in their circle work in government structures, possess good writing skills, and excel at household chores.
Naman Kaul shared that there are only three people in the family: his mother, father, and himself. Both his parents cannot hear or speak, which has been a serious responsibility and challenge for him. He found time to teach his mother. Although the school teachers also played an important role, he and his mother set the goal, and he convinced her that she was capable of doing it.
Speaking about financial problems, Naman specified that they live in the Jaghti/Shivad refugee camp. Their life is supported by the income of his father, a tailor, and aid received from the government. Renu's success is not only in achieving 82% but also serves as an example for everyone who postpones their dreams due to age or adverse circumstances. Renu Hans has proven that it is never too late to start a new life by picking up a textbook after 22 years. Today, her enthusiasm inspires admiration among the entire Kashmiri Pandit community.
