Tashkent will become the venue for one of the official international events dedicated to the Year of Sustainable and Viable Tourism in 2027. The relevant agreement was signed between Uzbekistan and the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).
This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Tourism. The ceremony is scheduled for November 2026 as part of the 'Tourism on the Silk Road' International Tourism Fair in Tashkent.
The agreement itself was signed following a meeting between the Head of the Tourism Committee of the United Arab Emirates, Abdulaziz Akkulov, and the Secretary-General of the UNWTO, Sheikha Noor Al Nowais, in the United Arab Emirates.
This document establishes the legal and organizational framework for preparing the event and coordinating measures to be implemented by both Uzbekistan and the UNWTO.
During the negotiations, issues such as sustainable tourism development, increasing the competitiveness of tourist destinations, personnel training, and expanding international cooperation were discussed.
The UNWTO Secretary-General also stated that the preparation of the Code of Safe Tourism, developed at the initiative of the President of Uzbekistan, is under his personal control, and consultations are being held on this matter with states and international experts.
