A joint operation by law enforcement agencies aimed at combating the illegal wildlife trade has resumed at the Crocodile Bridge in Kruger National Park.
On September 14, the Hawks organized crime investigation unit based in Nelspruit joined forces with the White River K9, Skukuza Vispol, and the Kruger National Park Rangers to conduct Operation Thunder.
The Crocodile Bridge is located in the southeastern corner of the park, near Komatipoort, making it an important transport route between the park and neighboring settlements.
The main goal of this operation is to detect and prevent criminal activities related to the illegal trade of wildlife and endangered plant species.
According to Magonseni Nkosi, a deputy colonel from the Mpumalanga Provincial Hawks, the mission is to identify and investigate individuals involved in the wildlife trade.
Law enforcement officers stop vehicles passing through the area and conduct searches for illegally transported items related to wildlife. The Kruger National Park Rangers also provide support by carrying out checks and verification procedures, as well as assisting in ensuring visitor safety.
The involvement of specialized K9 units and various law enforcement divisions is part of a coordinated approach to combating wildlife crime inside and around the park. This operation highlights the authorities' ongoing efforts to intercept illegal wildlife trade and other environmental crimes before contraband leaves the region.
