As the power of artificial intelligence systems grows, tech giants are setting new standards. On Monday, Microsoft introduced an internal code of conduct for its AI. This document appeared following warnings from Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, who called for a slowdown in the development of advanced models, as well as after the dismissal of security team members due to existential risks.

The proposed Microsoft rules aim to address concerns about AI alignment: the system must never resist a shutdown command, must ensure transparent communication, and any policy violation must be treated as a complete system refusal.

Meanwhile, China opposed calls from leaders of American AI companies to slow down the development of this technology on Monday, according to CNBC.

Under the Google DeepMind Accelerator: AI for the Planet (APAC) program, four Indian climate startups were selected: Terrastack, Varaha Climate, Farmers for Forests, and Climitra Carbon. These companies are among 16 regional organizations that receive three months of technical support, access to Google's AI stack, and expert mentorship to solve pressing environmental problems using advanced artificial intelligence.

IISc Professor Dr. Prathosh believes that society will face profound changes in employment, education, and human purpose as AI makes the process of thinking cheap. He notes that when basic thinking becomes fast and mass-produced, the economic value of routine intellectual work may sharply decline, leading to increased wealth inequality and forcing educational institutions and workers to reorient themselves toward solving unique, real-world problems.

Google announced the selection of four Indian startups—Terrastack, Varaha Climate, Farmers for Forests, and Climitra Carbon—to participate in the first Google DeepMind AI for the Planet accelerator (APAC). These companies join a group of 16 organizations from the Asia-Pacific region that are working to solve environmental problems using artificial intelligence.

According to Google's statement, over the next three months, the selected organizations will gain access to the latest Google AI stack, specialized technical support, and mentorship from experts to scale their vital solutions aimed at ensuring a more sustainable future.

The program aims to help startups, non-profit organizations, and researchers advance their ideas using advanced AI models to address pressing environmental challenges as they strive to enhance climate resilience in the region.

The four Indian startups utilize AI, satellite intelligence, remote sensing, and drones to address issues related to sustainable agriculture and agroforestry, as well as carbon removal and biodiversity.

Terrastack uses satellite and agronomic data to provide land information at the parcel level to smallholder farmers. Varaha Climate helps small farmers obtain carbon credits by verifying regenerative agriculture and carbon removal through remote sensing and AI. Farmers for Forests employs AI-based drones to transform smallholder agroforestry into measurable actions for reducing carbon emissions and conserving biodiversity at scale, providing necessary monitoring for expanding nature-based climate solutions.

Climitra Carbon implements Geo-AI to verify the removal of invasive species and their conversion into biochar, linking land restoration with scalable carbon solutions.

In addition to supporting the local ecosystem of climate tech startups, Google also announced four other major initiatives involving the application of artificial intelligence, geospatial data, and infrastructure investments to accelerate India's transition to clean energy. These include Scaling Solar API, adding 150 MW of clean energy, methane reduction and water conservation, and expanding the Climate Technology Center.
