Elon Musk's companies, including X Corp and SpaceXAI, have decided to withdraw the lawsuit filed against Apple. This original action accused the company of adopting anti-competitive practices within the App Store. The case was concluded in a federal court located in Texas, without the grounds for this decision being made public.
Previously, the dispute questioned the collaboration between Apple and OpenAI, alleging that this pact was harming competitors such as X and Grok. However, Musk's conflict with OpenAI is expected to continue.
The lawsuit, filed last year, alleged that Apple violated antitrust laws after incorporating ChatGPT functionalities into Apple Intelligence. According to Musk's companies, this partnership benefited both Apple and OpenAI while simultaneously preventing competition from their own products.
The petition also argued that the agreement justified the low visibility of the X and Grok applications in the App Store. Musk's companies told Reuters that 'if it were not for the exclusive agreement with OpenAI, Apple would have no reason to fail to highlight the X and Grok applications more in its App Store.'
In contrast, competitors such as DeepSeek and Perplexity achieved prominent positions in the App Store following the partnership between Apple and OpenAI, while SpaceXAI did not achieve similar results.
X Corp and SpaceXAI formalized the request to withdraw the action. The reasons for this withdrawal were not disclosed, nor was it stated whether an agreement had been reached between Apple and Musk's companies. Although the withdrawal ends the dispute against Apple, it does not nullify the allegations directed at OpenAI.
Furthermore, SpaceXAI is involved in another lawsuit concerning Grok. The accusations in this second case involve the creation of thousands of child sexual abuse images and claims that the system facilitated the large-scale production of fake and non-consensual intimate images used to harass women and girls.
These reports resulted in an official investigation conducted by California authorities, which is ongoing. While the action against Apple has been closed, Musk's companies maintain their claims against OpenAI and are dealing with this other controversy related to Grok.
