Samsung Display has unveiled the M16 OLED panel, its latest and most sophisticated smartphone display. According to the company, this panel achieves an impressive peak of 10,000 nits, establishing itself as the brightest screen ever seen in the mobile device market.
The South Korean manufacturer emphasizes that this component was designed to raise the industry standard, combining unprecedented visibility with greater energy efficiency for flagship devices.
Although the announcement occurred during the launch of the Vivo iQOO 16, presented in China this Monday (09/14) — which is marketed as Jovi in Brazil —, the new panel was already available on the market the previous week, being incorporated into the Apple iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone Duo, confirming speculations made earlier this year. It is relevant to note that Samsung has supplied screens to Apple for several years.
According to information from the SamMobile website, the panel features WQHD resolution (2560 x 1440 pixels) and employs LTPO technology, allowing for an adjustable refresh rate between 1 Hz and 165 Hz. Its global maximum brightness reaches 2,800 nits, complemented by a 1.24x DCI-P3 color gamut coverage.
The well-known leaker Ice Universe reported that the screen also incorporates features focused on greater visual comfort and responsiveness. The panel uses a polarizer-less design, called OCF (film on cell), along with an anti-reflective coating. This combination can result in up to a 30% reduction in battery consumption compared to previous generation screens.
As mentioned, the M16 OLED panel has already been introduced in the new iPhones, but only reached the Android ecosystem today through a model from the Chinese company Vivo. There are strong indications that Samsung will integrate this new screen into the Galaxy S27 Pro and Galaxy S27 Ultra models, scheduled for early 2027. This change would represent the first major display update for the Galaxy S line in three years.
On the other hand, the basic versions of the line, Galaxy S27 and S27 Plus, may continue to use the M14 panels, launched in 2024, which reach a peak brightness of up to 3,000 nits. Samsung's portfolio expansion is expected to include foldable devices, with the Galaxy Z Flip 9 and Z Fold 9 potentially receiving the upgrade next year.
