The Iqbal Survé Bursary Trust has opened applications to provide financial support to students from South Africa studying in the fields of medicine, science, and business. Survé Philanthropies launched these applications with the aim of assisting academically deserving students in obtaining higher education.
The announcement regarding the start of applications was made in Cape Town on September 14th. The organization stated that the fund will support students who possess academic potential but lack the financial means to continue their studies at higher education institutions.
For the founder of the fund, Dr. Iqbal Survé, this initiative reflects his own experience when education became a path to opportunities. He noted: 'Education changed the course of my life. Coming from humble circumstances, I realized very early on that education is more than just a qualification; it gives you knowledge, confidence, and the ability to change your life circumstances.'
The fund's main focus is on bridging the gap between intellectual ability and financial opportunity, which, according to Survé, continues to affect the prospects of young people in South Africa. He emphasized: 'Intellectual potential is not determined by economic circumstances, yet for too many young people in South Africa, their economic situation still determines whether they can pursue higher education and realize their potential.'
Education is one of the key areas of activity for Survé Philanthropies. Through this fund, the organization aims to help students acquire necessary qualifications and develop skills that will improve their prospects, as well as enable them to contribute to their families and communities. Survé stated: 'Therefore, the Iqbal Survé scholarship is deeply personal to me because it is about giving young people the opportunity to realize their potential and, through education, transform their own lives, and through their success create opportunities for their families and communities.'
Candidates can apply through the fund's online form. Additional information about the organization can be found on the Survé Philanthropies website. For Survé, the goal goes beyond simply obtaining qualifications. He believes: 'I have always believed that when education opens doors for you, you have a responsibility to keep those doors open for others.'
To participate in the program, applicants must meet the following conditions: be a citizen of South Africa, demonstrate financial need, and be enrolled in an accredited higher education institution in South Africa. The field of study must be in medicine, science, or business. The scholarship does not cover programs in arts and humanities, study outside of South Africa, personal expenses, or outstanding debt.
