Indian cricketer Kranti Gaud received a fine of ten percent of her honorarium for violating Level 1 of the International Cricket Council's (ICC) Code of Conduct during the Women's Asian Cup final against Sri Lanka, which took place in Dubai on Sunday.
Additionally, one disciplinary point was added to her disciplinary record. According to an ICC press release, this is Gaud's first violation in two years.
Gaud was found guilty of violating Article 2.5 of the ICC Players and Support Personnel Code of Conduct. This article pertains to the use of language, actions, or gestures that humiliate or could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter after their dismissal in an international match.
The incident occurred in the first over of the Sri Lankan innings. As stated in the ICC press release, after Gaud dismissed batter Imesha Dulani, she made a gesture towards the pavilion.
Gaud admitted her violation and agreed to the sanction proposed by Supriya Rani Das of the ICC Emirates International Arbitration Commission, so a formal hearing was not required. The charge was brought by field umpires Salima Imtiaz and Shatira Zakir Jaisi, along with third and fourth umpires Rokeeya Sultana and Humaira Farah.
Level 1 violations carry a minimum penalty of an official warning, a maximum of 50 percent of the player's honorarium, as well as receiving one or two disciplinary points. The Women's Asian Cup final concluded with India's victory, securing the title for the eighth consecutive time, defeating Sri Lanka in the main contest by a margin of 72 runs.
