A large-scale study conducted in Denmark demonstrated that the presence of febrile seizures in children under five years old does not significantly affect their school performance. Specifically, it does not impact the results of standardized tests in mathematics and reading.
However, the authors noted that a decrease in the average score on these tests was observed in two cases: with a higher frequency of such seizures, and in children who were subsequently diagnosed with epileptic syndrome.
Despite these observations, the statistical analysis presented in the paper does not allow for definitive conclusions about the degree of this relationship. The results of this study were officially published in the journal JAMA Network Open.
