American researchers have developed a comprehensive system capable of restoring both speech and gestures in people suffering from paralysis. This system utilizes a single brain implant installed directly over the sensorimotor cortex of the brain.
The data obtained from this implant is then transmitted to a computer. The computer, in turn, displays an animated double of the patient on a screen, allowing for the recreation of their communication functions.
The results of this work were officially published in the scientific journal Nature Neuroscience.
