There is a belief that not everyone manages to achieve an ideal state in life, which is confirmed by a viral post on the Reddit platform. In India, a person with an annual income of 20 lakhs and savings of 50 lakhs at the age of 30 is usually considered financially secure and happy, as they live better than many whose annual income is less than 2 lakhs.
One such man shared his financial situation on Reddit, which made many people think. This married man and his spouse have accumulated a total net worth of about 50 lakhs. Their combined monthly income is approximately 2.2 lakhs.
In his post, he mentioned that he has about seven years of work experience, and his annual earnings reach approximately 20 lakhs. His wife earns about 12 lakhs per year. Together they bring home about 2.2 lakhs monthly.
Despite this, the couple continues to live in rented accommodation, does not own a car, and uses an eight-year-old motorcycle. Although the marriage has lasted almost two years, they have not yet taken a proper honeymoon.
The man noted that interacting with friends from college sometimes makes him feel left behind. Some of his friends have acquired two apartments, one of which is rented out. Other friends own cars and travel to places like Bali and the Maldives.
He also admitted that he sometimes gets irritated when his wife buys expensive cosmetics or other trendy items influenced by social media. After this, he starts wondering if he is saving too much and living life under strict austerity.
The main question he raised in his post was this: is he comparing himself to others excessively? Is the feeling of financial lag, despite a net worth of 50 lakhs and a good family income, something common, or has he become too cautious with money?
This post sparked a discussion on Reddit not only about personal finance but also about lifestyle comparison and financial aspects.
