Dubai has started studying the possibility of creating a metro line that will connect its two airports, according to the head of RTA. The proposed connection is intended to link Dubai International Airport (DXB) and Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC).
Matar Al Tayer, CEO and Chairman of the Executive Council of the Roads and Transport Authority of Dubai (RTA), specified that discussions and studies are being conducted in collaboration with the airport administrations. He added that international consultants are involved in the work, and the research results are expected to be ready in about a year.
Currently, RTA is engaged in the construction of the Blue Line of the Dubai Metro. Furthermore, the authority plans to tender the Gold Line by the end of 2026. The total estimated cost of the Blue and Gold Line projects is approximately 55 billion dirhams.
After the completion of both lines, the metro network is expected to increase from the current 90 kilometers to 162 kilometers by 2032, representing an 80 percent increase. The Blue Line is scheduled for completion in 2029, and the Gold Line is expected to be ready by 2032.
