AI Revolution Launched in Higher Education of Uttar Pradesh; Committee Heads Appointed

A new policy concerning the use of artificial intelligence (AI) will soon be implemented in the universities of Uttar Pradesh. To this end, two separate committees have been formed at the government level: one will focus on developing the AI policy, and the second will handle its practical implementation in universities.

Professor Vinay Kumar Patak, the Vice-Chancellor of Chaudhary Charan Singh Maharaaj University in Kanpur (CSJMU), has played a significant role in this process.

The Advisory Committee on AI Policy was established to create the AI policy for Uttar Pradesh. It includes experts and scientists from various fields. Members of the committee include Professor Parta Pritam Chakraborty, former Director of IIT Hardpur; Professor Virmangopal Rao from the Bits Pilani group; Dr. BM Prasanna from the Institute of South Asia Borloga; Professor Kritika Rangarajan from AIIMS Delhi; and Professor Vinay Kumar Patak, Vice-Chancellor of CSJMU.

The task of this committee is to develop the AI policy for the state, meaning that Professor Vinay Kumar Patak will play an important role in shaping the rules for using AI in higher education institutions.

After the policy development is complete, responsibility for its implementation in various sectors has been assigned to the AI Policy Implementation Committee. This committee includes representatives associated with technical, medical, agricultural, and general universities.

Professor Jai Pee Pandey, Vice-Chancellor of AKTU, has been assigned responsibility for technical education. Dr. Sonia Nityanand, Vice-Chancellor of KGMU, is involved in medical education. Dr. Bidjendra Singh, Vice-Chancellor of Ram Manohar Lohia Avadh University, is responsible for agriculture. Professor Sangita Shukra, Vice-Chancellor of Chaudhary Charan Singh University in Meerut, participates in the committee for general universities. Additionally, Professor KP Singh, Vice-Chancellor of Dindiyapal Upadhyaya Group University, has been appointed as coordinator.

At the closing ceremony of the two-day event 'AI Manthan 2.0', held at CSJMU University in Kanpur, Governor Anandiben Patel emphasized the importance of responsible and safe application of AI technologies. The Governor urged scientists and specialists to prioritize safety standards when using AI, warning that improper use of AI could harm students, faculty, or society.

With the establishment of two committees—one for developing and another for implementing the AI policy in Uttar Pradesh—a systematic process for using AI in the state's university institutions has begun. The inclusion of Professor Vinay Kumar Patak in the Advisory Committee on AI Policy has given him a key role in shaping Uttar Pradesh's AI policy, while the second committee will be responsible for its practical realization across different fields and universities.
