During the partition (Bantwara), many people migrated from Pakistan to India, including Rajni Becker, whose family originated from Karachi. Born in Karachi, Rajni married into a business family in Ludhiana. Despite her marriage, she continued her education. After the birth of her children, they were sent to an institution, and then Rajni took a baking course at the Punjab Agricultural University, focusing on her culinary skills.
As her interest in baking grew and her recipes gained recognition from friends and neighbors, she decided to start a small business with only 300 rupees. This money was spent on purchasing an oven, and she began making ice cream at home.
Although the ice cream business was running, it was not profitable. At this point, her husband, Dharmvir, supported her by providing financial assistance of 20 thousand rupees in 1978. Rajni named her brand 'Creamica' because it sounded similar to the word 'cream.'
After this, Rajni started making a profit from the ice cream, but she did not stop there. She gradually expanded her business, adding bread, cookies, and sauces to the assortment. Subsequently, her activities extended beyond local products.
In 1985, Rajni opened a bakery factory in Punjab. Initially, about 5000 loaves of bread were produced daily, but over time, the production volume increased to approximately 50,000 loaves per day. This growth allowed the company to transition from a small business to a large food enterprise. Later, this business became associated with the Creamica brand, which became known for its cookies and other food products. Furthermore, the company launched its own bakery brand called English Oven, where bread and premium baked goods are sold.
Today, Rajni's Creamica brand is said to be present in over 60 countries. The company's annual turnover exceeds 1600 crore rupees, and its total valuation is estimated at 7000 crore rupees.
The businesswoman from Punjab, Rajni Becker, was awarded the Padma Shri in 2021 for her contribution to the trade and industry sector. After receiving this award, Rajni Becker met with President and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. During this meeting, Prime Minister Modi expressed his desire to taste the recipes she created.
