The Royan International Congress was held in Tehran, which included the 27th Congress on Reproductive Biomedicine, the 22nd Congress on Biology and Stem Cell Technology, and the 21st Seminar on Obstetrics and Midwifery. The event took place from Wednesday to Friday.
The three-day event gathered Iranian and international researchers and specialists. It was conducted both in person and online, providing an opportunity to study the latest scientific advancements in infertility treatment, assisted reproductive technologies, regenerative medicine, cell and gene therapy, as well as new applications of artificial intelligence in biomedicine, according to IRNA.
This year, 447 out of 589 submitted articles were accepted. The distribution across sections is as follows: 197 posters and 7 articles were accepted at the Congress on Reproductive Biomedicine; 186 posters and nine articles were accepted at the Congress on Biology and Stem Cell Technology; and 45 posters and three lectures were accepted at the Seminar on Obstetrics and Midwifery.
The high level of scientific participation led the Royan Congress to affirm its status as a significant specialized platform in the field of reproductive medicine and stem cells. This event not only demonstrates research results but also facilitates networking among scientists, clinicians, and professionals in the technological and therapeutic sectors.
Details of Participation in the Congresses
Thirty-one speakers presented at the 27th Congress on Reproductive Biomedicine, including eight representatives from England, Australia, Belgium, Russia, Italy, Germany, and Switzerland who participated remotely. Regarding the 22nd Congress on Biology and Stem Cell Technology, out of 34 presenters, 14 were from Turkey, Russia, Malaysia, Canada, the USA, and the Netherlands. Additionally, 19 Iranian scientists presented their papers at the 21st Seminar on Obstetrics and Midwifery.
The main topics of the 21st Seminar on Obstetrics and Midwifery included: the latest advances in infertility treatment; screening for reproductive health in patients with poor ovarian response; studying the health of patients with premature ovarian insufficiency; donation in infertility; complementary medicine and infertility; the influence of environmental, cultural, and professional factors, as well as lifestyle, on ART outcomes; emotional, psychological, and sexual changes during infertility treatment and management; the role of counseling and education in treating infertile couples; introduction to fertility preservation methods for women and men; management and treatment of recurrent abortions; assessment of patients with recurrent implantation failure; prenatal care after ART; managing support and recovery processes during infertility treatment complications; nursing and obstetrics interventions in new infertility treatment methods; endometriosis and reproductive health; assessing the health of children born through ART procedures; the application of artificial intelligence and digital healthcare technologies in infertility management and treatment; genetics and infertility; prevention of infertility risk factors; and evaluating the impact of couple involvement on improving treatment processes.
In 2025, 514 out of 600 submitted articles were accepted. The event was attended by 22 lecturers from 19 foreign countries, including representatives from Germany (Professor Janmes Ajaye), Qatar (Dr. Mohammad Mustafa Arafah), France (Professor Laurent David), Austria (Dr. Victoria Deneke), Spain (Dr. Nicolas Garrido Pushalt), Italy (Dr. Local Gianiroli), Japan (Professor Kazuhiro Kawamura), Russia (Dr. Daria Kuznetsova), New Zealand (Professor Bjorn Obak), and China (Dr. Zhen Liu), as well as 59 national lecturers. Eight specialized seminars and a pre-congress symposium on obesity, infertility, and Sanger sequencing methods were held concurrently with the congress.
Overview of the Royan Institute
The Royan Institute was founded in 1991 on the initiative of the late Dr. Said Kazemi Ashtiani and a group of researchers and physicians from the Iranian Academy of Medical Sciences' Academic Center for Education, Culture, and Research (ACECR). Initially, it functioned as an outpatient surgery center to provide medical care to couples with fertility problems, as well as to conduct research and training in reproductive sciences.
Since 2000, the field of research in reproductive biomedicine and stem cell biology has established itself as one of the most successful scientific projects in Iran and West Asia. In 2002, the research areas at the Royan Institute expanded to include stem cell studies. Subsequently, the scientific data obtained were adapted for use in regenerative medicine approaches and cell therapy. Over the past three decades, the Royan Institute has focused its efforts on increasing the success rate of infertility treatment, as well as maintaining public health through clinical services of cell therapy and embryo health.
Through two decades of active participation in the exchange of scientific knowledge and experience with renowned scientific institutions and scholars, the Royan Congress has contributed to the formation of numerous joint scientific projects and exchanges.
