Mongolian President Khürelsükh Urhnää noted on Sunday that the Erdeneburen hydroelectric power plant in the western province of Khovd is a significant result of practical interaction between Mongolia and China.
During an inspection of the construction site, where he received a report on the project's progress, Khürelsükh emphasized that Mongolia is using this project as an opportunity to further strengthen practical cooperation with China in the fields of energy and infrastructure.
The Mongolian President highly praised the execution of the contract and the construction management by the Chinese side, and thanked the Chinese government for its strong support of the project.
Zhao Li, the acting chargé d'affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Mongolia, stated that China is ready to cooperate closely with Mongolia to implement the important agreement reached by the heads of the two states. He added that it is necessary to strengthen strategic mutual trust, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, and turn the HPP into a high-quality benchmark project that aligns with the Global Development Initiative and Mongolia's 'Vision 2050' development plan.
This power plant, built by the Power Construction Corporation of China, currently represents the largest national key project for ensuring Mongolia's vital needs. The total installed capacity of the project is 90 megawatts, and upon full commissioning, it is expected to provide stable energy supply to five western provinces of Mongolia, significantly increasing the region's energy self-sufficiency.
Furthermore, the project is expected to improve local agricultural irrigation, promote cultural tourism and fishing, and contribute to environmental protection and integrated environmental management.
