Meteorologists warn of heavy rainfall in Delhi-NCR, UP, Bihar, and other regions of India

Although the second week of September is usually associated with the end of the monsoon season, weather conditions in various parts of the country show a continuation of rains. The Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning about the probability of rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds in Delhi-NCR and several other states.

According to IMD forecasts, the weather may change in about 15 states on September 10. In some areas, winds of 50 to 65 kilometers per hour are expected, accompanied by rain and thunderstorms. Although the probability of rain in Delhi-NCR today is low, the situation may change in the coming days.

In the capital and surrounding areas, light clouds are expected on Thursday. The maximum temperature is forecast to be around 35 degrees, and the minimum 27 degrees Celsius, which may cause a feeling of heat due to high humidity. However, relief is not far off: according to the meteorological department, weather changes may begin on September 11. The most intense rains are expected on September 12 and 13, after which the weather may become clearer on September 14, and rain is possible again on September 15.

There is a risk of heavy rains with thunderstorms and strong winds in several districts of Uttar Pradesh. A warning for thundershowers and strong winds has been issued for Gorakhpur, Bahraich, Ghazipur, Azamgarh, Varanasi, Fursatganj, Lakhimur, Prayagraj, Kanpur, Gautam Buddha Nagar, and Jaunpur. Wind speeds in these places may reach 65 kilometers per hour. Lucknow is also expected to have cloudy skies, with a maximum temperature of 32 degrees and a minimum of 26 degrees Celsius.

The Meteorological Department has also issued an orange alert for heavy rains in several districts of Bihar. Heavy rainfall may occur in Gopalganj, Siwan, Shivahar, East Champaran, Katihar, Patna, Bhojpur, Baksar, Saran, Vaishali, Samastipur, Lakhisarai, Khagdia, Munger, Bhagalpur, and Muzaffarpur. The rains are expected to be accompanied by strong winds of about 50 kilometers per hour and possible lightning strikes. A maximum temperature of 32 degrees and a minimum of 27 degrees Celsius is forecasted for Patna.

Madhya Pradesh may be one of the states with the highest amount of precipitation. A warning for very heavy rains is issued for many places, including Bhopal, Indore, Dewas, Ujjain, Guna, Khandwa, Panna, Sheopur, Narmadapuram, Narsinghpur, Chhindwara, Katni, Jabalpur, Ashoknagar, and Neemuch. During the rains, wind speed may reach 60 kilometers per hour. A maximum temperature of 31 degrees and a minimum of 23 degrees Celsius is expected in Bhopal.

In most districts of Jaipur, Bharatpur, Ajmer, Kota, and Udaipur in Rajasthan, the monsoon may weaken in the coming days. A decrease in monsoon activity is also predicted in the districts of Jodhpur and Bikaner in western Rajasthan over the next five days. Nevertheless, light or heavy rains are possible in Alwar, Bharatpur, Digha, Dausa, and Karauli. Today, a maximum temperature of 34 degrees and a minimum of 25 degrees Celsius is expected in Jaipur.

Rainfall is expected to continue in some parts of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh. A warning for heavy rains has been issued for Uttarakhand from September 10 to 13, as well as a risk of thunderstorms and lightning in some areas from September 10 to 14. Heavy rains may fall in Himachal Pradesh on September 14 and 15. Constant precipitation poses a threat of landslides and traffic disruptions in mountainous regions.

According to IMD forecasts, very heavy rains are possible in Chhattisgarh on September 12. Heavy rains are expected in Western Madhya Pradesh from September 12 to 14, in Eastern Madhya Pradesh on September 11, and in Vidarbha from September 12 to 13. In West India, in Konkan and Goa, Central Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Surat-Kachha, increased rainfall is also expected in the coming days. Extensive rain is forecasted for Konkan and Goa from September 9 to 15. The weather will remain active in eastern and northeastern India: thunderstorms and strong winds are possible in Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Sikkim.

Although discussions about the return of the monsoon usually begin in mid-September, this time a number of atmospheric systems is prolonging the rainy period. This is affecting various regions of the country. On the one hand, the rains help relieve the heat and stuffiness, but on the other hand, constant precipitation can lead to urban flooding, transportation problems, and drainage issues. Furthermore, there is a risk of landslides in mountainous areas and floods in lowlands.

The monsoon season in Uttar Pradesh (UP) does not appear set to end. According to forecasts, heavy rains are expected in seven districts on September 3. The IMD meteorological department predicts a high probability of abundant precipitation in Banda, Chitrakoot, Jalaun, Hamirpur, Mahoba, Jansi, and Lalitpur. Additionally, short showers with thunderstorms may be observed in many parts of the state.

According to the meteorological service forecast, the highest probability of heavy rainfall in the listed districts persists from September 3 at 8:30 AM until September 4 at 8:30 AM. This means that residents of these districts need to exercise extra vigilance over the next 24 hours. Sudden heavy downpours may start in some places, potentially leading to flooding in low-lying areas, increased road slipperiness, and disruption of local traffic. Therefore, it is crucial to exercise caution in open areas and on wet roads during the rain.

Besides Bundelkhand, active weather is expected in other regions of the state. According to IMD, rains or short showers with thunderstorms are possible in western UP, while the eastern part of UP is forecasted to have a probability of precipitation. Localized heavy rains are possible in both regions. This indicates that the weather in the state on September 3 will be heterogeneous: some districts may receive normal precipitation, while others may face sudden intense downpours causing concern.

The change in weather is linked to the influence of marine systems of the Bay of Bengal. IMD reports that a low-pressure area formed over the northwestern part of the Bay of Bengal has moved in a northwest direction and remained a well-defined low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal of Western Gangetic Province and adjacent northern coasts of Odisha, Jharkhand, and the North-West Bengal Bay. This has intensified monsoon activity. This is why the rainy period is expected to continue in Uttar Pradesh in the coming days. The meteorological department has warned of rainy activity in the state for the next five days. Very heavy rains were also predicted in the eastern part of UP during the first 24 hours.

The impact of the rains will not cease after September 3. A high probability of heavy rains is forecasted in Mathura, Agra, Firozabad, Itawa, Jalaun, Hamirpur, Jansi, and surrounding districts from September 4 at 8:30 AM until September 5 at 8:30 AM. Then, from September 5 to the morning of September 6, heavy rains are expected in Aligarh, Mathura, Hathras, Agra, Firozabad, Jansi, and Lalitpur and neighboring areas. Thus, rainfall activity may persist in various parts of Bundelkhand and western UP in the coming days.

The IMD's September forecast also presents various weather assessments for different parts of Uttar Pradesh. The southern and eastern parts of the state are expected to receive above-average rainfall. Meanwhile, the western part of UP may see below-average rainfall, and the rest of the state is expected to receive normal amounts of rain. Regarding temperature, most regions of the state are expected to have both maximum and minimum temperatures exceeding the norm in September. This could lead to a feeling of stuffiness and temperature fluctuations amidst the rain. There is also a risk of thunderstorms and lightning in several districts during heavy rainfall. The meteorological service forecast indicates an increased probability of thunderstorms in western UP districts such as Saharpur, Shamli, Muzaffarnagar, Baghpat, Meerut, Ghaziabad, Hapur, Gotambhudh Nagar, and Bulandshahr. Additionally, Agra, Firozabad, Mainpuri, Itawa, Auraiya, Jalaun, Hamirpur, Mahoba, Jansi, and Lalitpur are included in the list. In such weather, people should avoid being in open areas, under trees, or near electric poles. During heavy rain and lightning, it is safer to be in a sheltered place.

The meteorological service advised staying away from low-lying and flooded areas during heavy rains. It is extremely important to avoid approaching streams, rivers, and bridges where water can suddenly rise during a heavy downpour. Special caution must also be exercised when driving on flooded roads. During a thunderstorm, one should avoid being under trees. Residents of rural and open areas are advised to move to safe places when weather conditions deteriorate.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts the resumption of monsoon activity in several regions of the country. On August 31, heavy rain was predicted in multiple states, with very heavy rainfall expected in parts of Odisha and Chhattisgarh.

Meanwhile, in Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR), the weather on August 31 will be warm and relatively dry. The sky may be partially cloudy, with a maximum temperature ranging from 35 to 37 degrees Celsius. During this period, southwesterly winds may reach speeds of up to 25 kilometers per hour.

However, starting September 1, conditions for rain in Delhi will improve. According to IMD data, light or weak rain is possible in some areas, and thunderstorms and lightning are expected during the day and evening. Delhi residents should expect significant relief from the heat as early as September 2. Cloudy weather with light and scattered moderate rains accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is forecast. Air temperature may drop to 32–34 degrees Celsius.

According to meteorological forecasts, very heavy rains may strike Uttarakhand and Arunachal Pradesh on August 31. A period of heavy and very heavy rains is expected in various parts of Eastern and North-Eastern India. IMD indicates that the monsoon may remain active in large parts of the country in the coming days, with rains continuing until September 5.

On August 31, extensive precipitation is expected in Odisha and Chhattisgarh, with very heavy downpours possible in some places. Heavy rains are also forecasted in Jharkhand and Bihar, with very heavy showers possible in some areas during the day.

The monsoon is predicted to remain active until September 5 in both North and South India, as well as in Central and North-Eastern India. Rains are possible at different times in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. Very heavy rain is expected in Uttarakhand until September 1. Strong rain is forecast in West Uttar Pradesh from August 31 to September 5. Local or scattered rain is expected in Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Punjab, and West Uttar Pradesh.

In East Uttar Pradesh, the area of precipitation may increase from September 1 to September 5, with the possibility of heavy rains in some places.

Central India is expected to maintain humidity and rainfall throughout the week. Quite extensive rain is forecasted in Chhattisgarh, East Madhya Pradesh, and Vidarbha until September 5. Extensive rain is expected in West Madhya Pradesh from September 2 to September 5. Very heavy rains are possible in East Madhya Pradesh from September 1 to September 3, and in West Madhya Pradesh from September 3 to September 5. Very heavy rain is also forecasted in some places in Chhattisgarh on September 1.

Extensive precipitation is expected in West Bengal, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Sikkim until September 5. Extensive rain is forecasted in Jharkhand and Odisha until September 1. In Bihar, rains may continue from August 31 to September 2. As for West India, extensive precipitation is expected in Konkan and Goa until September 5. Extensive rain is forecasted in Central Maharashtra on September 4. Local or scattered rain is expected in Gujarat, Marathwada, and Surat-Kachha throughout the week.

Rainfall activity is also expected to intensify in the North-Eastern states. Quite extensive rain is forecasted in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, as well as in Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura. Heavy, and in some places very heavy, rains are expected in several places. The rainy period in these North-Eastern states may last until September 5.

High monsoon activity is also expected in South India. Extensive rain is forecasted in coastal Karnataka from August 31 to September 5. Extensive rain is expected in Kerala, Mahé, and Lakshadweep until September 3. Rains with thunderstorms, lightning, and strong gusty winds are possible in some areas.

IMD warned of a low to moderate risk of flash floods in some river basins and adjacent areas of Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, and Uttarakhand on the morning of August 31. Residents of areas expecting heavy rains are advised to monitor local weather alerts and follow official recommendations.
