Meta is conducting tests with robots to perform operational maintenance tasks in its data centers located in the United States. This initiative was disclosed by company employees in an article published by Wired magazine.
The machines are being evaluated to perform specific tasks, such as replacing network cables, handling servers, and managing power supply in the facilities.
The trials are taking place in units located in Altoona, Iowa, and New Albany, Ohio. Among the equipment under evaluation are the Kinova Gen3, which has a robotic arm designed to operate servers, and a four-wheeled device with a lift platform intended for component replacement.
Currently, Meta also uses solutions provided by companies such as ABB and Watney Robotics.
Industry analysts point out that the implementation of these technologies has become a practice due to factors such as reduced hardware manufacturing costs, advances in artificial intelligence development, and the emergence of new companies focused on commercial robotics.
Discussion about the introduction of machines
The arrival of these robots has provoked debates both within the company itself and among workers. This debate also extends to municipal public policies. In certain areas, Meta receives tax benefits on the condition of fostering job opportunities for local residents.
