American President Donald Trump rejected calls to slow down the pace of artificial intelligence (AI) industry development or introduce strict regulations. Trump emphasized that America is ahead of China in the field of AI and considers maintaining this advantage critically important.
He stated that the winner will be the one who prevails in the AI race. Nevertheless, Trump acknowledged the possibility of implementing safety measures for AI and noted that concerns about this technology are exaggerated.
Concerns Regarding the Pace of AI Development
Trump's comments came amid many AI industry figures calling for caution due to the rapid growth of technologies. Recently, Dario Amodei, CEO of Anthropic, called for a slowdown in the pace of AI development.
In his view, AI systems are now helping to create the next generation of AI. He warned that the new cycle of 'recursive self-improvement' could surpass human ability to understand and control these powerful systems. Amodei wrote that it is necessary to reduce the pace of improving AI model capabilities to use time wisely, despite the continued rapid development.
Sam Altman and Elon Musk supported Amodei's proposal. Altman agreed with Dario, noting that controlling the pace of development was a central theme of their meetings at OpenAI in recent weeks. He added that providing independent evaluators with internal access is an excellent idea that they are also implementing. Elon Musk also expressed his agreement, stating that Dario is absolutely right.
Furthermore, Anthropic researcher Jacob Cox recently resigned, stating that AI developers believe everything could be destroyed by the end of the decade.
