Anneke Bosch, a versatile player for the Proteas team, is entering a new phase in her career, playing for the Proteas women's team in Zimbabwe. Bosch, who is 33 years old, went through a difficult period after being diagnosed with a serious illness about a year and a half ago.
The batter openly spoke about her time away from the game, calling it 'difficult for several months' and 'the hardest time' in her career. The situation was compounded by her absence during the ODI World Cup in India, after which she lost her place in the main Proteas squad.
This strongly contrasted with the image of a confident and freely hitting player who scored 74 runs without batting in the semi-final of the T20 World Cup in Dubai in 2024 with 53 balls to defeat Australia.
However, after a recent appearance for Essex in the English T20 Blast, Bosch regained her confidence, which was demonstrated in Zimbabwe through consistent performances of 83 and 65 runs.
Proteas Women's Tour to Zimbabwe
During the second T20I, where the Proteas team defeated the Zimbabwean women's team, Bosch delivered a sensational all-around performance. Her second half-century in Sunday helped Proteas reach a score of 193/5, after which she took 2/5, restricting the opponents to 129/7.
Bosch shared her impressions: 'It was an amazing experience. I am very happy that I played there, and that I had the opportunity to play for Essex. It was really good.' She added that she enjoyed gaining playing experience, spending time in the center of the field, and playing in different conditions and environments, calling this period good for herself.
The player expressed joy at the opportunity to play for South Africa again, noting that some time away from the squad was disappointing, but now she is happy to return and enjoy the game.
Bosch believes that the previous experience playing in Zimbabwe helped her during this series. She mentioned that she participated in the SA Emerging tour in Zimbabwe a couple of years ago, so she is familiar with some players. She emphasized that it is always pleasant to play against a new team, doing a small analysis of their bowlers and tactics, but on the field, you just have to watch the ball and react on match day.
