The Merebank book project has launched the publication titled 'Merebank's Heritage: Our People, Our Culture, Our Stories.' This book compiles memories, cultural heritage, and the life experiences of generations of Merebank residents and was presented today in the MTSS hall.
This edition is considered one of the most comprehensive collections of community stories created about Merebank. The project's goal was to preserve a heritage that belongs not only to current residents but also to future generations.
Heritage Book
Ela Gandhi presented the book at the launch ceremony. Ashok Madhunlall, a member of the Merebank Book Project, noted that the book is based on personal memories, historical research, family archives, and community contributions.
Madhunlall emphasized that the book describes the development of Merebank through its achievements, challenges, and defining moments. It tells the story of ordinary people whose lives together shaped this exceptional community. He added that this edition is a gift to future generations because it preserves not only dates and events but also values, sense of humor, resilience, and the voices of the people who made Merebank what it is today.
The Merebank Book Project is a community-driven initiative dedicated to documenting, preserving, and celebrating the history of Merebank. Kiru Naidu spoke during the event.
Madhunlall reported that thanks to the research, storytelling, and collaboration, the project ensures that the culture, people, and stories of Merebank will continue to inspire coming generations. Funds raised from book sales will be overseen by the Merebank Heritage Trust. All collected funds will be directed back into the Merebank community for its renewal, revitalization, and improvement.
