The government has adopted significant measures to prevent fraud at pollution testing centers in Delhi. These steps are aimed at strengthening the system for checking the technical condition and pollution levels of vehicles in the city, which faces serious air pollution problems.
An analysis revealed that commercial vehicles were being issued technical condition certificates at outdated sites, while private vehicles were receiving pollution certificates at booths located near gas stations. Now, all testing centers will be modernized and equipped with cameras to ensure transparency and better control over the entire process.
According to information from the Delhi government department, modern automated testing stations have been launched in the Tekhand and Nand Nagari areas to check commercial vehicles. Each such point is capable of inspecting about 72 thousand vehicles annually.
According to Delhi chief Reha Gupta, this decision to mandate video surveillance is being introduced to increase transparency and prevent violations. The government asserts that as part of the 360-degree strategy, efforts are being made for strict control over pollution through vehicle checks, monitoring systems, and technical improvements. Optimism has also been expressed regarding Delhi's victory in the fight against pollution thanks to joint efforts.
