A ceremony marking the start of the first academic year at the Bauman Moscow State Technical University branch in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, took place. This campus is the first foreign branch of the Russian university.
This academic year, studies based on the Russian engineering system began for 42 students who successfully passed the entrance exams. The students were enrolled in three educational programs: Computer Science and Computer Engineering, Information Systems and Technologies, and Design and Electronic Equipment Technology.
The ceremony was attended by the Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation of Uzbekistan, Kongretbay Sharipov; Rector of Bauman Moscow State Technical University Mikhail Gordin; Russian Ambassador to Uzbekistan Alexey Erykhov; Rector of Tashkent State Technical University Sadriddin Turabjanov; and Irina Staroselskaya, representative of Rossotrudnichestvo in Uzbekistan.
The selection of programs was driven by the needs of Uzbekistan's industrial sector. Amid the country's digital transformation, there remains high demand for qualified engineers and IT specialists, including developers, cybersecurity experts, and electronics engineers.
Addressing the first-year students, Gordin recalled the main motto of Bauman University: 'Courage, will, hard work, and perseverance!'. He called the opening of the first international branch in Tashkent a historic step.
The Rector emphasized that the quality of Bauman's education does not depend on geographical location, stating: 'We do not make concessions because of the distance from Moscow. The curricula, requirements, and evaluation criteria are identical to those in the Second Bauman Street. Lectures at the branch will be given by professors from Moscow, and senior students can study directly at the Moscow campus.'
Russian Ambassador to Uzbekistan Alexey Erykhov also called the opening of the branch a significant event and congratulated the first students. He stated that they are the first students of the sole branch of Bauman Moscow State Technical University and should become the true intellectual elite of their country.
According to Erykhov, the knowledge and experience gained at Bauman University will enable students to solve complex technological problems. The diplomat expressed gratitude to the ministries of higher education of both countries, the management of Bauman Moscow State Technical University and Tashkent State Technical University for their work in establishing the branch.
The Ambassador noted that cooperation in the field of education reflects the development of the strategic partnership between Russia and Uzbekistan. He believes that the graduates of the branch will be able to contribute to the implementation of large-scale tasks and national projects defined in Uzbekistan's development strategy.
As part of the ceremony, honored guests and branch staff presented identity cards to the students. Following this, Mikhail Gordin, Rector of Bauman Moscow State Technical University, delivered a lecture to the students and their parents.
On the same day, the second meeting of the Branch Board of Trustees was held. Anton Egorov, Director of International Affairs, presented issues concerning ensuring the full operation of the campus and its further strategic development. Priorities include maintaining the quality of education in accordance with the academic standards of Bauman Moscow State Technical University, integrating the educational process with industry needs, and developing joint research projects.
It is expected that the graduates of the branch will acquire fundamental knowledge and practical skills corresponding to the demands of the digital age and will be able to work in their chosen fields both in Uzbekistan and abroad.
