For customers ordering food through Zomato, there is important information: an additional commission may now be charged when choosing Cash on Delivery (COD). Zomato has started applying a 'Pay on Delivery Fee' to some users who prefer to pay for their orders in cash.
According to available reports, this commission varies from 5 to 20 rupees, and its amount is not standardized for all customers. The company has not yet disclosed a fixed rate applied to different users.
When using online payments such as UPI or bank cards, customers can avoid this special fee. However, this does not mean that other charges will not be applied to online orders; platform fees, delivery costs, packaging expenses, and taxes may still apply to the order.
The additional fee for cash payment can noticeably affect customers placing small orders. For example, if a low-priced dish has a commission of 5 or 10 rupees added, the total bill increases.
Currently, it is unclear which specific users and orders are subject to this charge, as different users report different commission amounts.
It should be noted that Zomato's major competitor, Swiggy, is currently not charging a similar additional fee for cash payment upon delivery.
Since Zomato has not provided official clarification regarding this new fee, customers are strongly advised to carefully check the full bill amount on the payment page before placing an order, especially if they choose the Cash on Delivery option, as this is where the additional fee may be added.
